National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) Development

What is National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS)?

NOSS outlines the skills required by an employee working at a certain level of employment to achieve specific competency.

NOSS is developed by a pool of the industry expert and skilled workers in the area of performed job. 

The NOSS can be used for Pengiktirafan Pencapaian Terdahulu (PPT)/Recognition of Prior Achievement certification and the Curriculum of Competency Unit (COCU) will contribute towards the development of the National Curriculum for Skills training to be adopted by both the public and private institutions.

The advantages of using or applying NOSS are as follows:

(a) For employers:

• to evaluate employees’ performance;
• to determine the skills, need to be trained;
• to determine the job scope and level of skills of the worker;
• indirectly to enhance the productivity and being more competitive.

(b) For workers/employees: 

• to provide detail information of work scope;
• to benchmark their performance;
• to assist the worker to select and attend the appropriate training for career advancement.

(c) For training institute /trainer/instructor:

• to facilitate training curriculum or programme preparation and customisation to meet industry needs;
• to have better understanding of the specific skills needed by the industry;
• to assess re-training needs of trainer/instructor to meet current industry needs.
