 20 November 2023: Visit to Persekutuan Orang Pekak Malaysia (MDF)

On 20th November 2022, Malaysia Steel Institute (MSI) collaborated with Persekutuan Orang Pekak Malaysia (MFD) celebrated Children's Day 2023, to appreciating and bringing joy to deaf children. This event, was also attended by Lion Group’s representatives, commenced with opening remarks by Teacher Ema and Teacher Helen from MFD, followed by Ms. Lee Hooi Lan from MSI and Ms. Penny Tan from The Lion Group.

The main celebration of children days was the engaging mini-games activities, including puzzles, mini-bowling, bean bag throwing, and the loop game, designed to create joyful moments for the deaf children in attendance.

MSI extends heartfelt thanks to Parkson Credit Sdn. Bhd. (Under Lion Group) for their generous sponsorship, covering goodies bags for children and Texas Chicken meals for 27 children and six teachers, with a total budget of RM1,000. This contribution played a significant role in making the event memorable for the children. In addition to Parkson Credit Sdn. Bhd., MSI expresses gratitude to other members who generously contributed to this CSR activities. Special acknowledgment goes to Lion-Parkson Foundation, CSC Steel Sdn. Bhd., and P.P Steel Sdn. Bhd. for their valuable support. The combined contribution from these organizations amounted to an impressive RM6,150, showcasing the collective commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of this children.

The program ended with a sincere donation to the teacher representative at MFD, through this donation MSI emphasizes the dedication in supporting educators who play an important role in the lives of these special children.

 4 November 2023: Visit to Petrosains, The Discovery Centre with Ti-Ratana Welfare Society Malaysia

On 4th November 2023, Malaysia Steel Institute (MSI) hosted a corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity by inviting Ti-Ratana Welfare Society Malaysia to explore Petrosains, The Discovery Centre. The 3-hour event became a memorable experience for 29 children from Ti-Ratana Welfare Society Malaysia, attended also by MSI staff, led by Mr. Leon Lai, accompanied by Ms. Syakirah, Ms. Asmalyn, and Mr. Daniel.

Adding to the significance of the occasion was the presence of Mr. Kevin Low, representing Wei Dat Steel Wire Sdn. Bhd. In a gesture of remarkable generosity, Wei Dat Steel Wire Sdn. Bhd. sponsored the entire cost of the CSR activities, covering tickets, food, goodie bags, and transportation.

MSI extends its sincere appreciation to Wei Dat Steel Wire Sdn Bhd for their commitment to community engagement and their invaluable contribution to making the event a success. Beyond Wei Dat Steel Wire, MSI expresses gratitude to other members who generously contributed in this CSR activities. Special acknowledgment goes to Kiswire Cord Sdn. Bhd. and Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (PERSTIMA) Berhad for their valuable support.

The combined contribution from these organisations totaled an impressive RM8,000, This collaborative CSR activity not only provided a day of enjoyment and learning for the children of Ti-Ratana Welfare Society Malaysia but also exemplified the positive impact that partnerships between corporate entities and charitable organisations can have on the community.

6 October 2020: Visit to Malaysian Association for The Blind (MAB)

On 6th October 2020, MSI visited the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), as part of the CSR activities for 2020. The association is located in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. The session began with a presentation on MAB services by Ms Malini, followed by simulation activities such as tasting, touching and smelling. Next, a video presentation was shared, followed by Q&A and concluded with a quick tour to the library, Braille production and low vision centre.

The Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) is the premier voluntary organization in Malaysia, aim to serve the visually impaired persons. It provides services that helps the blind and prevent the tragedy of avoidable blindness.

Established in 1951 by the Department of Social Welfare, its activities have extended from Kuala Lumpur to other parts of the country. These include educational programmes, rehabilitation courses, vocational training and placement service. In addition, MAB also runs a Braille library, a "talking" book library, a Braille Publishing Unit, an Information Technology Centre, Resource Centre and a Sale and Production Unit to name a few. Its prevention of blindness programmes is realized through the eye hospital which MAB established in 1986. In recent years, MAB has reached out to the visually impaired folks in the rural areas where rehabilitation services and training programmes are provided to them within their home environment, through its community-based rehabilitation (CBR) schemes.

14 September 2020: CSR Visit to NASOM

On 14th September 2020, MSI conducted a visit to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) located in Jalan Ipoh. NASOM was formed in 1987 by a group of parents and professionals with its objective of delivering lifespan services to the community suffering from autism. The visit was followed by a mock cheque presentation ceremony, sponsored by Lion-Parkson Foundation, Kiswire Sdn Bhd, Posco (M) Sdn Bhd and CSC Steel Sdn Bhd.

4 October 2019: Zoo Trip CSR Program

On 4 October 2019, MSI organized a CSR Program for The Yayasan Sunbeams Home. A half-day program to Zoo Negara was sponsored by VDC-Tech Integrated Sdn Bhd & Modern Integration Technology Sdn Bhd. A total of 16 children were brought to the Zoo Negara, accompanied by 6 staff from Malaysia Steel Institute and VDC-Tech Integrated Sdn Bhd.

27 June 2018: Rumah Tititan Kasih – 3rd MSI CSR Community Care

MSI launches the 3rd CSR Community Care on Wednesday, 27 June 2018 at Rumah Titian Kasih (RTK) to visit orphanage, old folks and single mothers. The shelter which was located at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa housed approximately 120 residents which include the children, old folks and others.

Mr Jarrod Lim, CEO of MSI handed over the AEON Vouchers worth RM 3,000 to Pn Sharifah Haji Adlan who is also the caretaker of the Rumah Titian Kasih since 1998. Pn Sharifah, also known as ‘Mak Pah’, was a nurse before deciding to quit her job to build a shelter for the orphanage, old folks, abandoned kids from the street and abused victims. In order to generate income for the shelter’s operations, Mak Pah sells variety of crackers, sweet pastries, Nasi Lemak and handmade crafts.

24 May 2018: MSI Donated to Buddhist Sunday Dhamma School (BIDS)

MSI organised the 2nd CSR Community Care Program on the 24th of May at the Buddhist Institute of Sunday Dhamma School (BIDS), Buddhist Maha Vihara which is located in Brickfield. MSI was represented by Mr. Jarrod Lim, CEO of MSI who handed the cash contributions and vouchers to the school representative.

Currently, the school is under renovation for expansion to accommodate more students and volunteers and to provide better facilities. The construction of the school will include meditation pavilion that provides a tranquil environment and the installation of passenger lifts for the elderly and disabled students to attend classes.

The donations was given by Malaysia Steel Works Sdn Bhd (MASTEEL), Established Metal Industries Sdn Bhd (EMI) and MSI Staff.

26 April 2018: MSI Community Care Campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 26, 2018: The MSI Community Care Campaign in collaboration with Ann Joo Resources Berhad aimed at reaching out to the needy. The campaign is to showcase MSI and its members for their involvement and commitment beyond steel making, while embodying its overarching value system.

One of the main objectives of MSI Community Care Campaign is to achieve the industrial and community sustainability as well as to touch more lives in the communities we serve including with other institutions, members of MSI, partners, government organisations and associations in the iron and steel industry.

With the contribution from MSI members and staff, the Community Care campaign managed to distribute the basic necessities to the Yayasan Sunbeams Home such as cooking oil, rice, beverages, sugar, tea, powdered milk and more. MSI will continue to collaborate with the key industry players to fully support the growth and well-being of the local community through the MSI Community Care campaigns.
